Kindergarten Experience

Hello!

My name is Anna Sodemann and this is my first year at South City Catholic Academy as the Kindergarten Assistant. I graduated from Westminster College in May 2020. I was ecstatic to be able to come home to St. Louis and find an in-person position at SCCA.

Due to the pandemic and the need for social distancing, the decision was made to split Kindergarten into two smaller groups. This allows me the opportunity to supervise half the students while Mrs. Rincker teaches the other half in a separate classroom. When students are with me we do things like morning meeting and center time. The students are becoming experts at identifying the weather, the days of the week, and interacting with one another. I also supervise recess, snack time, and a short rest time for both Kindergarten groups.

Another opportunity I have is teaching science to the Kindergarten class. The students are curious, engaged, and have the best questions. So far this school year we have talked about living and nonliving things, our five senses, and how to be a scientist. Just before Christmas break we finished our plant project. We talked about the parts of the plant and what plants need to grow. Each student was able to plant a seed and over the weeks leading up to Christmas break, watch them grow in our classroom under a grow light. The students loved it! I am looking forward to what the rest of the school year has in store.

Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, and support.
